The scientific communication and documentation service manages the collection and preservation of texts and images at the Legnaro National Laboratories, manages the Vannucci Library in network with the institution’s other three national laboratories, also through the Network Inter Library Document Exchange (NILDE) system, carries out local third mission activities and supports the national acronyms of the Third Mission Coordination Commission (CC3M). The service uses the agency’s ticket system to track user requests. The library houses over approximately 5,000 monographs and 200 scientific journals in print or online. In September 2020, a donation from Il Nuovo Cimento led to the complete collection of the journal of the Italian Physical Society from 1949 to the present. Some annual subscriptions to technical journals are available. The archive of photographs and slides consists of approximately 8,000 pieces; it also includes maps of some buildings and the plans of the main accelerators. Particular attention is paid to the closing experiments: a report on the results is archived in the service’s dedicated workbook. Local third mission activities are guided tours, seminars in secondary school classes, measurement assistants for secondary school students, and European Research Night.

How to read a magazine article?
The journals to which INFN subscribes are available on the Italian periodical catalogue page. Subscription journals are accessible from the INFN LNL network. Subscribed journals, if paid, can only be accessed with INFN AAI credentials. Springer’s JHEP and EPJC journals are available for consultation via Scoap3. Available IOP publisher journals are listed here. To log in, at the bottom of the article tab, click the blue button “Access through your institution” and select INFN.The service for requesting journal articles and parts of NILDE books is available.

How to publish an article in Open Access and how to read a magazine article?
The “green” way to publish an open access article is to publish in a non-Open Access journal (i.e. without paying), then deposit the print post (also called the AAM, i.e. the preprint after the corrections made following peer review) in an open archive such as arXiv or openaccessrepository.it. How to write an internal report?
The author contacts the service by opening a ticket with AAI credentials to prepare a document on the project status (opening, closing, data collection) and reports the title and list of authors in the ticket. Each internal report has an INFN-LNL-xxx/yyyy code. The document in English is subject to review by the service manager.

How to ask for support for photographs and audiovisuals?
Some colleagues are available, subject to the commitments of their services, to take photographs and record audiovisual images (short films). It is not a complex image directing or processing service. The request with date, location, event and type of service can be opened by ticket.
How to propose a book to buy?
Once a year, the service purchases books for the library. The purchase proposal can be submitted at any time, by ticket. The next deadline for book purchase proposals is Friday, March 27, 2027, at 9:00 a.m. CET.
How to borrow a book?
The user requests the book (title and author) via ticket. The service staff summons the user for the manual loan process. Interlibrary loans are not permitted. Theses in the library can also be searched.
