CUPID-0: demonstrated a new technology for hunting Majorana neutrinos

A new article, recently published in Physical Review Letters, demonstrates the validity of the technology used by the CUPID-0 experiment, active at the INFN LNGS , in the hunt for a very rare phenomenon known as “double beta decay without emission of neutrinos ”which, if observed, would confirm that the neutrino is a Majorana particle (a particle that coincides with its antiparticle).

In addition to LNGS, about 50 researchers from various national and international institutions and other INFN structures participate in the experiment, such as the Legnaro National Laboratories and the sections of Rome, Milan and Genoa.
