EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) is a collaboration among scientific Institutions operating in the field of physics research aiming to define a common architecture for the design of control systems with the goal of reducing development costs and improving reliability.

Epics software is open source and portable across all major hardware platforms and operating systems (including Unix, Linux, Windows and real time OS); the network communication is based on industry standard protocols.

EPICS users community encourages and coordinates the development of new software tools and supports newcomers through a worldwide network of experienced programmers.

The EPICS Collaboration Meeting 2008 took place at LNL from October 13 to October 18, 2008.

You can find here a link to some general purpose utilities realized at LNL, together with a description of main activities being carried out in the context of SPES control system development.

In particular, the control of off-line Target Laboratory is entirely based on EPICS and is in operation since 2010.
